I know many of you are itching to get out and fish as cabin fever may have set in during this drawn out month of February, but there are still a few upcoming events to check out that will definitely hold you over until the weather warms up.
One of the most important events to us at BCI is the seminar we will be doing at the Upper St. Clair Fly Fishing Club http://uscflyfishing.org/ . It will be held at the old USC Recreation Center Building on McLaughlin Run Road on Monday February 20, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. We will be bringing the whole crew to offer fly tying demos using the new fish skull and sculpin helmets by Fish Skull. Along with the tying demos we will talk about western Maryland. Emphasis will be placed on when and where to go, what to take, what it offers, and everything else in between. We will also be showing last year’s BCI FILM titled “Savage Seasons.” Everyone who attends will get one of our BCI decals, and have a chance to win a raffle of some great fly boxes filled with the Bug Chuckers go-to patterns. The layout of the presentation will be different than most; there will be stations set up where you can go from seeing patterns being tied at a table, to chatting with one of our members about the fishing hot spots we’ve experienced. With an hour and a half of time you won’t miss a thing, so please stop by! If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the comments.
If you are interested in BCI doing a presentation or seminar please feel free to leave us a comment or cast us an email.
The Fly fishing show is going on this weekend, February 18 & 19 at the Lancaster County Convention Center in PA. Kevin will be attending the show to check it out. Admission varies by age but one day tickets for adults are $15.
Another local event coming up is the Fly Fishing Film Tour at Cabelas inWheeling,WV. It will take place in the conference room located upstairs near the restaurant and camping department. It is a free show with refreshments. The dates are March 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. and March 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Check out the film tour website to see what’s in store. You might catch BCI pre-gaming at a local bar before hand, details will be released at a closer date.
If you missed the Fly Fishing Film Tour at Cabelas, you have another chance to check it out with International Anglers in Pittsburgh, PA. They will be showing it at the Oaks Theater on March 18, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15.
The Penn’s Woods West Trout Unlimited will hold their annual Cabin Fever again this year on March 4, 2012 at the Sheraton Four Points in Cranberry, PA. Stop by and talk to Dale Kotowski from Wilderness Voyagers to see what great deals he has to offer. B.C.I are still going through the loops to be set up there so we will let you know if it happens.
Don’t forget to sign-up with PA TU’s for their Coldwater Conservation Corps training session 3/31 in Uniontown, PA. Learn how to find brookies in uncharted water and how to PROTECT them with the right testing and telling the right people. Just because the estimates of the amount of natural gas in the Marcellus have been dramatically reduced, doesn’t mean the gold rush will slow down. The more new brookie stream [re]discovered in PA, the safer everybody (and every living thing) in the watershed will be.
One last thing you can do is to find out where your local Trout Unlimited meetings are being held, and join that chapter. Attend the meetings and get active, because projects and events that interest you might be coming up.
These will be the flies that are going to be raffled off. Good luck!
